Today, we look at Fudan University’s 2023 BRI report, recent analyses, on BRI trends and the build-up to the China-Africa Forum.
China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is experiencing strategic shifts as it adapts to global competition, particularly from U.S.-led initiatives like the G7 Global Partnership for Infrastructure and Investment. In the Middle East, China is refocusing its efforts on the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, prioritizing high-impact projects in energy and technology while facing new challenges from U.S. initiatives. Meanwhile, Africa has become a central focus for the BRI, driven by China’s need for critical minerals essential for green technologies. As China prepares for the upcoming Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), it aims to strengthen its long-term partnerships and solidify its influence on the continent, particularly in securing vital resources and shaping future global supply chains.
